Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Funeral Celebrant?
A funeral celebrant is an independent individual who is normally contracted by the funeral director on behalf of a family to officiate a funeral. This includes planning and overseeing the funeral ceremony.

Funeral celebrants will typically meet with the family to discuss their needs in order to organise and conduct the funeral. During this process they will talk with those present about the person who has died in order to create the ceremony which can include: tributes, poems, readings, hymns, visual tributes and and other music required. Ceremonies can also include more personal elements such as pinning messages to a coffin.

A funeral celebrant will always work closely with the funeral director to ensure all arrangements reflect the families wishes. While planning and organising are key tasks for a funeral celebrant they are also there to support you to say goodbye and will conduct the ceremony on your chosen day.
What Qualifications Do You Have?
I have a Batchelor of Theology from the University of Wales for which I studied at Spurgeon's College. During my degree some of the modules I completed included: pastoral theory and practice, pastoral care and counsel along with professional ministry and practice.

I also have thirteen years experience in leading Baptist churches and supporting people through the highs and lows of life. This has included leading hundreds of Sunday services as well as weddings, funerals, child dedications and vow renewals. During this time I have also led numerous Christmas Memorial Services in conjunction with local funeral directors.
Do you use Religious Content in Ceremonies
Yes and No. While I am a Christian and have worked in Christian Ministry my role as an independent celebrant is to listen to you in order to craft a unique ceremony that honours your wishes.

While I specialise in 'Semi-Religious' ceremonies, a lot of the ceremonies that I lead are Non-Religious. I will always take the time to sit and listen to you during our time together so that we create the right ceremony for you as we honour the memory of your loved one.
How Far Will You Travel
My fees include ceremonies at Haltemprice, Chanterlands, and Lelley Fields Crematoriums as well as leading ceremonies at all local Cemeteries and Natural Burial Grounds.
Ceremonies at East Riding Crematorium are an additional £50 due to travel time and costs.

I am willing to work further afield when required and will discuss costs with you prior to you engaging my services.
